Here's what I believe: you don't have to choose just one creative story for yourself, and you don't have to niche down or reduce yourself down so much that you feel like you've drained the life out of your work and talent. I believe you should embrace all the chapters and layers that make up who you are and who you want to be in this moment. It's okay to change your mind. It's okay to carve a different path anytime you want. We need you and your rebellious soul. So f*ck what everyone else says about how you should be doing things, and go with your gut. That's where the magic is, babe.

I'm Kelly James, a branding/web designer and photographer, working with artists and small businesses who do things their way. I once had a client say that my work is "audaciously rooted in love" and I've held onto that ever since. I create brands with intention and bold, romantic creativity (and a rock 'n roll yet slightly bookish twist). I think strategy without a hint of intuition and wildness and rule-breaking, leaves branding that's totally lacking in personality and warmth. My knack is finding the balance, the magic, and all the things that turn your brand into an experience.

I live close to the ocean in Southern California with my dog Stella Bird and a cat named Sookie St. James. My family history (full of artists, sculptors, actors, and musicians) is woven through the hazy streets of Los Angeles - it's a place that serves as my constant inspiration. I'm a former dancer who would be a guitarist in a rock 'n roll band in another life. If I could, I would go back in time and raid the closets of Jimi Hendrix, Stevie Nicks, and late 60s-early 70s Keith Richards. While studying film at university, I found photography and graphic design while taking elective classes, and the rest is history. I'm a reader who prefers the experience of a physical book, but also cannot go a day without listening to audiobooks. I refuse to be anything less than myself, and I want that for you, too.
